On the 800th anniversary of the 1217 Battle of Lincoln, visit the Castle that played such an important role as the army of King Henry III prepares for battle.

The 1217 Battle of Lincoln has been described as the most important conflict on English soil after the 1066 Battle of Hastings – meet, witness, and discover the preparations for that conflict on its anniversary weekend.

See the artisan at work preparing bows and arrows, the Castle garrison being drilled under the watchful eye of the Castellan, Lady Nichola dela Haye.  Hear news of the French attack force as heralds and spies bring the news.

Witness the arrival of the Kings champion – Sir William Marshall – the best Knight in England and Regent to the new, boy King.  Be roused by his rallying call and join us the following weekend to see how the story unfolds and history is made.

This weekend also sees more activities to mark the anniversary across the city, including the launch of the 36 sculpture Lincoln Knights’ Trail across the city, marketing the 800th anniversary of the Battle. A full re-enactment of the Battle will take place in the Castle over the following Bank Holiday Weekend.
