SUMMARY:One of Britain’s Best Kept Secrets of WW2
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe museum looks at the extraction of oil from both the Nottinghamshire countryside and oil rigs at sea. There are artefacts from the industry and the individuals involved in that industry. \n\nOne of World War Two’s best kept secret was the stationing of US oilmen from Oklahoma and Texas with the monks\, then living at Kelham Hall. They were there to extract oil from wells underneath the Nottinghamshire countryside\, with ‘nodding donkey’s’ installed at Duke’s Wood at Eakring and in other places. What made the story even stranger was that they were billeted at Kelham Hall\, then home to the monks of the Society of the Sacred Mission. The museum tells their story\, but also the wider story of oil production around the UK\, through the experiences of the curator Kevin Topham. \nOpening Times\nThursday 6 September: 1300 – 1700\nFriday 7 September: 1300 – 1700\nSaturday 8 September: 1300 – 1700\nSunday 9 September: 1300 – 1700\nThursday 13 September: 1300 – 1700\nFriday 14 September: 1300 – 1700\nSaturday 15 September: 1300 – 1700\nSunday 16 September: 1300 – 1700 \nBooking Details\nNo booking required \nAdditional Information\nParking charges may apply for parking at Kelham Hall Contact for the day: Viv Claxton 07787 514096\nwww.dukeswoodoilmuseum.com/
